Mappings

Background
The regional mapping of civil society organizations in the Southern Mediterranean region (ENPI South countries) is one of the main components of the Civil Society Facility South.
The mapping aims to:
  • Identify regional trends in terms of civil society needs and engagement in policy dialogue,
  • Identify promising CSOs,
  • Support the tailoring of a public policy training programme to empower CSOs and networks to engage in policy dialogue with governments. The regional mappings covered 7 countries in 2014: Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Jordan. In Algeria and Tunisia, a sectoral mapping was conducted during the course of 2015 following a different approach.
Priority Themes
The analytical regional and national mappings of CSOs were conducted on four priority themes:
  • Education
  • Environment
  • Health
  • Local development
These sectors were identified as priority areas in a participatory manner through the feedbacks of CSOs and EU Delegations, on the basis of the focus areas addressed in the projects submitted by grantees through the Call for Proposals EuropeAid/131140/C/ACT/Multi as well as through background research.
In each country, the regional and national mappings were presented and validated by CSOs in collaboration European Delegations. CSOs were informed on the main challenges and opportunities in each of the four priority sectors.
